ANN: SE Basic 3.2

Mensaje por aowen » 21 Nov 2016, 15:26

In case anyone is interested I've updated the version 3.x branch of SE Basic. This is the most compatible open source replacement firmware for ZX Spectrum compatibles (and more compatible than the freely available v3.1.2). As I understand it, ZX-Uno is shipping with the version 4.x branch, but that was only ever intended as the firmware for the Chloe 280SE. SE Basic 3.2 works with esxDOS. It has most of the features of 128 BASIC. It has ULAplus commands. It has the better BASIC editing and debugging. You can get it here: https://zx.itch.io/sebasic3

How big is it?

OpenSE 3.1.2 was a 16k ROM, so it could be used on 48k computers (I put it on my Harlequin). The 4.0 version is 32k, so it seems that it is 128k only...

Can 3.2 be used on 48k computers?

Hi,

Just a side note, there is a typo in the web site:

Switched default compiler to back to Pasmo.

Purchased!... Thanks for the heads up there aowen!...

I know you don't hang out much at WOS, but I think I might mention it there too, since I know there will be others equally interested in updates to this project... :)

Thanks for continuing to refine this great ROM...

:)

Sorry for the late reply. The full 4.0 won't work on the standard 128 as it doesn't have a 512 x 192 video mode. You can use ROM1 from version 4.0 on a 48K machine, but as with the 128, you get no access to 80 column mode. Future versions of that branch will only support the Chloe and 128s with a ULAplus video chip and divMMC.

3.2 works with everything from the 16K machine and up.

I wish I'd seen this in time to stop you. I think your posting to WoS may have cost me a thousand quid in legal costs. Oh well, 2016 continues to rain piss on me.
Really? :(

I seriously hope not... :(

Iv just been flitting through that forum to see what you might be referring to... Much of that thread seems to be taken up with pedantic discussions about GPL licencing talk, which is a million miles away from the talk that I had hoped would ensue from such a thread topic, but Im not seeing anything obvious that would cost you, unless people really are wanting to be mean spirited and make trouble...

Im seriously sorry if in some way I have cost you,

Please accept my humble apologies if that is the case... :(
